Peskov says Russia ready to help Yerevan and Baku
Russia remains ready to assist in the peaceful settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also welcomes independent steps of the parties. This is how Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the statement of Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan.
Simonyan questioned Russia's participation in the settlement because of ‘bad memories’ of the past experience.
‘We have heard statements from Yerevan at various levels that there is no need for mediators. Both Yerevan and Baku are capable of continuing the negotiations themselves and bringing them to a conclusion. While remaining ready to provide any assistance, we will welcome their independent efforts.
The most important thing for the South Caucasus region is to remain predictable, peaceful and turn into a territory of prosperity and cooperation,’ Peskov said.
