Moscow  wants Armenia and Azerbaijan developing a peace treaty that would signify a long-term settlement of their relations, the Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mikhail Galuzin, told in an interview with Izvestiya. Earlier, officials from Armenia and Azerbaijan stated that the peace treaty was almost 90% agreed upon.

"Naturally, we are always ready to assist in moving forward, and we are against hastily concluding any documents, as the West insists. The West wants Armenia and Azerbaijan to sign a peace agreement as soon as possible on some Western platform," he said.

According to Galuzin, hasty and not fully thought-out decisions could lead not to long-term sustainable peace but, on the contrary, sow seeds of future confrontation. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers this option highly undesirable for Armenia, Azerbaijan, the South Caucasus, and Russia.

The diplomat also expressed regret that the work of the trilateral group led by the deputy heads of government of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on unblocking transport communications and restoring economic ties has been interrupted.
