PACE co-rapporteurs visited Agdam
Baku/05.06.23/Turan: The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Jan Lidel-Grainger and Liz Kristoffersen, who are in Azerbaijan, visited the liberated city of Aghdam.
According to the press service of the Milli Majlis, the co-rapporteurs got acquainted with the destruction committed by the Armenian armed forces in Aghdam, as well as with the construction works carried out by the Azerbaijani state after the liberation of the city.
The co-rapporteurs themselves have not yet commented on their visit to Aghdam. They are on a visit to Azerbaijan on June 3-7. The purpose of their visit is to assess Azerbaijan's fulfillment of its obligations under Council of Europe resolution 2184 (2017).
The program of the visit also includes meetings with the head of the Presidential Administration, Ministers of Foreign and Internal Affairs, justice, as well as representatives of the judiciary.
Besides, meetings will be held with the Speaker of the Parliament, leaders of political parties represented in the Parliament, and the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE.
During the visit, the co-Rapporteurs will also meet with representatives of civil society. -03B06-

Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who arrived in Baku today, held a press conference at the COP29 climate conference. When asked about the arrested climate activists and opposition figures in Azerbaijan, she stated that Germany advocates for the release of government critics and that she would raise this issue during her meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister. She specifically mentioned the name of Professor Gubad Ibadoglu, a doctor from Dresden University.

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
