Parliament of Israel Withdraws Bill on Recognition of Armenian Genocide
Baku / 05/29/18 / Turan: Speaker of the Knesset Julius Edelstein removed the draft decision on recognition of the "Armenian Genocide" in the Ottoman Empire out of the agenda of the Israeli legislature. This is written by The Jerusalem Post with reference to the spokesperson of the speaker.
The voting on the draft decision on the recognition of the "Armenian Genocide" was scheduled for Tuesday, May 29.
The representative of Edelstein noted that the voting on the bill was withdrawn because of the uncertainty whether the parliamentary majority would support this decision. Thus, the speaker decided to avoid embarrassment.
It is reported that many Israeli parliamentarians could vote "against", since the adoption of this decision could spoil Israel's relations with other countries. In particular, they note in the publication that the recognition of the "Armenian Genocide" could damage Israel"s relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan.-02D-
