Pashinyan announces the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan and accuses Baku of not fulfilling the agreements

Baku / 11.05.22 / Turan: A meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan is planned in the near future. This was stated on May 11 by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is on a visit to Holland.

“It is necessary to open regional communications so that our railways and roads with Azerbaijan begin to operate. We started a dialogue with Turkey, agreed to start normalizing relations without preconditions,” he said.

He called on the international community to help the Armenians of Karabakh, who are "fighting for the right to live in their homeland." However, Azerbaijan blocks access to the region for international organizations.

“Azerbaijan presented its ideas on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, where there are five main points. We are talking about mutual recognition of each other's territorial integrity, demarcation and delimitation of borders, and the absence of territorial claims against each other.

There is nothing in these proposals that is unacceptable to us, but they do not address all issues. We have included security issues, the rights of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh on the agenda.

On April 6, at a meeting with the participation of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, we discussed this issue with the President of Azerbaijan. I said that there was nothing unacceptable in the points proposed to us. If the Azerbaijani side agrees to combine the two ideas and start negotiations on this basis, then we are ready for this.

At the same time, Azerbaijan has recently made statements that only Azerbaijan's proposals are on the negotiating table. This is not in line with the agreements in Brussels. Today I must reaffirm my position that we are ready to negotiate on the basis of these principles,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

He also accused Baku of trying to use the Armenian prisoners for bargaining.

“Today, at least 38 of our prisoners remain in Azerbaijan. The last time, in the presence of the President of the European Council, the President of Azerbaijan promised to release another group of prisoners, but this has not yet happened,” Pashinyan said, calling on the world community to influence Azerbaijan. -02D-
