The house of culture of the settlement Amirjan on the outskirts of Baku Wednesday morning hosted a solemn assembly of several hundred members and supporters of the Popular Front Party, devoted to the 25th anniversary of this organization.
The meeting was opened by the party leader Ali Kerimli, who said about the priorities and values for which PPFA fights. He called on the Azerbaijani society not to remain indifferent to the political process and to actively promote the interests of citizens.
Participants of the event were read an appeal of the former head of the National Council, the famous screenwriter Rustam Ibrahimbayov, the political prisoners Gurban Mammadov, Tofig Yagublu, and Anar Mammadli, and the activists of NIDA.
Presentations were made by civil society activists, who founded the Popular Front Party, - Jamil Hasanli, Leyla Yunus, Vidadi Mirkamal, Sardar Jalaloglu Ibrahim Ibrahimli and others, who made excursions into the history of the movement and gave an assessment of its various stages. However the preachy tone of Jalaloglu displeased.
The general tone of the speeches boiled down to the fact that PPFA played an irreplaceable role in the protection of freedom and sovereignty of the country and the struggle for the ideals of democracy.
One of the main priorities of the current and subsequent activities of PPFA was named youth, fighting for its minds and active youth participation in politics. -02B-

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The trial was suspended after Ibrahim, in protest against the illegal arrest, began banging his head against the "aquarium cage", trying to commit suicide. The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
