President of PACE: Sentence against Rasul Jafarov - Evidence of Degradation
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anne Brasseur issued a statement condemning the Azerbaijani authorities for sentencing the human rights activist Rasul Jafarov.
In her micro blog on Twitter, she wrote “Azerbaijan: reprisals against HR defenders reflect persistent degradation of HR. Deplore 6.6 years sentence against (Rasul Jafarov – ed.).
Disappointing to see #Azerbaijan fails to address systemic HR issues: independence of the judiciary & freedom of speech.” -16D-

Afgan Sadigov, the head of the Azerbaijani website Azel TV, has been on a hunger strike for 45 days while imprisoned in Georgia. Today, his wife, Sevinc Sadigova, visited him in the prison hospital. "Afgan is getting worse and worse. He was brought to the meeting in a wheelchair. He is severely emaciated: his blood sugar is low, he has kidney problems, lethargy, dizziness, and nausea.
