"Prisoner of Conscience" Ilham Amiraslanov released on parole
Baku/09.12.13/Turan : The activist of the Civil Society Kura Staff Ilham Amiraslanov was released from jail on parole in connection with the passing two thirds of the sentence .
Ilham Amiraslanov actively fought for the rights of people affected by floods in 2010 .
In early June 2012 , he was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons and tortured. September 13, 2012 Sabirabad District Court sentenced Amiraslanov to 2 years in prison on charges of illegal possession of weapons (Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code ) .and on January 25, 2013 the Shirvan Court of Appeals upheld the verdict in force.
Amnesty International recognized Amiraslanov "prisoner of conscience" . Consideration of applications from Amiraslanov for his release on parole was repeatedly postponed and he even held a hunger strike in protest. -16D04 -
