Pro Azeri and pro Armenian members of the US Congress
While a few congressional seats changed hands in US elections on Tuesday, the balance of power in Congress remains the same, with Democrats in control of the Senate, and Republicans keeping their majority in the House of Representatives, TURAN's Washington DC correspondent reports.
In the 100-member Senate, Democrats will have 53 seats, while Republicans will have 45 seats.
In the House Republicans have 233 seats, Democrats so far have won 192.
Republican speaker John Boehner will retain his post. The election wasn't much successful for the Armenian and Azeri Diasporas' supporters though.
In California, a top pro-Armenian Congressman Howard Berman, who was the chairman and since 2010 a ranking member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, lost his seat, while in New Jersey, pro-Armenian senator Bob Menendez was able to get re-elected with 58% of the votes.
In the meantime, according to the Armenian National Committee of America, approximately 90% of the congressional candidates backed by the group, prevailed in the elections.
As for pro-Azeri senators, Republican Scott Brown from Massachusetts lost his re-election bid with 46%, while another candidate Prof. Rob Sobhani from Maryland got only 17%. -25В-
