Prosecutors General of Iran and Azerbaijan discussed the investigation of an armed attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran
Baku/14.02.23/Turan: At the initiative of the Iranian side, on February 13, a telephone conversation took place between the Prosecutor General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammed Jafar Montazeri, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Kamran Aliyev.
The sides discussed the course of the investigation into the case of an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, the press service of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office said.
Montazeri expressed "regret" in connection with the crime committed against the Azerbaijani embassy.
Conveying condolences to the Azerbaijani people and families of the victims, the Prosecutor General of Iran informed his Azerbaijani colleague in detail about the progress of the investigation.
In turn, Aliyev, condemning the terrorist act against the Azerbaijani embassy, noted that the relevant investigative body of Azerbaijan is conducting its own investigation.
He noted the need for a full and comprehensive investigation of the criminal case by the Iranian side, identifying and bringing to justice all participants in the crime, ascertaining the causes and conditions that contributed to the commission of the terrorist act.
According to a press release, both sides agreed to keep this criminal case under review and cooperate through mutual legal assistance.-03B-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
