Prosecutor's Office Refused to Investigate Ali Karimli’s Complaint
Baku / 25.02.20 / Turan: Azerbaijan’s prosecutor's office refused to initiate criminal proceedings on the complaint of the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Karimli against torture by police during the action on October 19, 2019.
According to Karimli, he sent his first complaint on October 24th. “We demanded to start a criminal case in connection with police violence against me and other participants in the protest rally, to bring those responsible to justice,” Karimli said.
He called for a medical examination and to look at the recordings of security cameras where he was detained and to question the officers who participated in the beating.
Having not received an answer to his complaint, Karimli again turned to the prosecutor on December 27.
This time the answer came two months later, which said the complaint was investigated by the Baku prosecutor’s office and could not be confirmed, the opposition noted.
On December 27, he sent a second complaint to the prosecutor, the answer to which came only on February 13.
Karimli appealed to the Sabail district court of Baku with a complaint already about the actions of the prosecutor's office. -0-
