Putin and Aliyev exchange messages on the occasion of 30-anniversary of diplomatic relations
Baku/04.04.22/Turan: Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents exchanged messages on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
An I.Aliyev's letter reads that Azerbaijani-Russian relations, based on centuries-old traditions of friendship and good-neighborliness between the peoples, have been successfully developing and strengthening in the spirit of strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation based on principles of mutual respect and trust with due regard for each other's interests.
Interstate relations today are characterized by an active political dialogue and fruitful cooperation in trade, economic, transport, energy, humanitarian and other spheres.
The jubilee year of the establishment of diplomatic relations coincided with the signing of the Declaration on Allied Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia. "This important document fixed a qualitatively new, the highest level to which the relations between our states have reached over a thirty-year period," Aliyev said in his message.
In turn, Putin's message to the President of Azerbaijan said that over the past decades, much has been done to develop Russian-Azerbaijani relations, based on good traditions of friendship and mutual respect.
"Constructive political dialogue, fruitful cooperation in trade, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and other spheres is expanding. Based on trilateral agreements reached in the last year and the year before, we are working together to strengthen stability and security in the Transcaucasus region.
This year was marked by an important achievement - the signing of the Declaration on Allied Cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan. I am confident that bringing our bilateral relations to a new, qualitatively higher level meets the fundamental interests of our peoples," the Russian President said in his message. -02D-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
