Putin on Possibility of Changing Format on Karabakh
Baku / 23.10.20 / Turan: Russia feels a special responsibility for the settlement in Karabakh, but it needs support, including from the United States and France, and there is no answer to the question whether it is necessary to change the format of the group based on the situation in this region, said Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the Valdai Forum on Thursday.
"I do not have an answer to your question (whether it is necessary to change the format of the group for the settlement in Karabakh), unfortunately," he said.
“We feel a special responsibility, and in this regard we must behave very carefully. But in this context, the support from the United States, France and other members of the Group is very important for us,” Putin stressed.
“Is it necessary to change something in this regard? I don’t know. Maybe the format can be changed a little,” the Russian President said.
Commenting on the words of the President of the Russian Federation, the political scientist Rasim Musabekov said that Putin proceeds from the fact that the situation has completely changed. Now we are not talking about mediation, but rather the guarantors of the future agreement. In this sense, Turkey's participation is inevitable.
“Now some people say that Turkey should be involved as the fourth co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. Ankara does not need this if it can calmly talk over the heads of the Armenians with Moscow. The OSCE Minsk Group itself no longer has a real impact on the situation. Formally, it can and will remain to perform some technical functions. Now the question of the guarantors of the new agreement, which will reflect the new realities - the de-occupation of the Azerbaijani territories, and such can be Turkey and Russia, becomes urgent.
Putin, as a pragmatist, understands this and proceeds from the reality and he will not spoil relations with Turkey because of the illegal demands of Armenia,” Musabekov said.
No one will any longer be able to impose any agreement on Azerbaijan that does not suit it, he stressed. -06D-
