REAL to Hold Republic Marathon on May 28
Baku / 27.05.19 / Turan: The Republican Alternative Party (REAL) announced the Republic Marathon on May 28. This decision was made by the party"s leadership in connection with the celebration of the 101st anniversary of the People"s Republic of Azerbaijan (PRA: 1918-20).
On May 28, the Republic Day, REAL will hold a 12-hour marathon. This involves a massive visit to the Obelisk of the Declaration of Independence on Istiglaliyyet Street, and individual visits during the day from 8.00 to 20.00.
The party recommends that members and supporters of the organization during the holiday commemoration comply with the lawful demands of the police. At the same time, the party"s statement states that the Azerbaijani authorities, under the pretext of holding the European Football League finals in Baku on May 29, unofficially restricted entry and exit of citizens to the central streets, including Istiglaliyet Street, during the week.
The party considers the finals to be a far-fetched reason for restrictions, since the Baku Olympic Stadium is located 11 km from the city center. In connection with this REAL tried to resolve the situation with the unofficial restriction in the spirit of political dialogue. Taking into account the increase in the load of the police in connection with the final match, REAL decided to postpone the festive event to an early date. However, on May 24, the police put forward new conditions and broke the agreements. The party was told that a mass festive event would not be allowed.
REAL believes that the right of foreigners to entertainment should not exceed the right of citizens to visit the Obelisk of independence. -03D-
