British Ambassador: Many People in England Know Tofig Bakhramov. However...

Baku / 27.05.19 / Turan: FC Arsenal and FC Chelsea separately came to Baku to play with FC Karabakh and therefore they are well acquainted with the stadium, where the Europa League final will take place on May 29.

The British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Carol Crofts said this at a press conference on Monday.

She noted that there are close football ties between Azerbaijan and Great Britain.

The Ambassador noted that the responsible person for the state of the lawn of the Republican Stadium named after Tofig Bakhramov is a British citizen from Liverpool.

"Many people in England know Tofig Bakhramov, but not many people know that he was Azerbaijani. In 2016, when England celebrated the 50th anniversary of the victory at the World Championship, we, as representatives of the Embassy, visited Tofig Bakhramov"s family. They still have the whistle presented to him by the Queen. They had a picture of Tofig Bakhramov with Bobby Charlton in their apartment. They presented this photo to us, and now we store it at the Embassy. In addition, on the Queen's birthday, we invited them to the reception, where they were given the England national team jersey of 1966," the Ambassador said.

Referring to the memo of the British Foreign Office about the existence of a "terrorist threat in Azerbaijan", about what places tourists from Britain can visit, and what they should not do, the Ambassador noted that this memo was prepared a long time ago and there was no reason to update it.

"This memo always exists, and I don"t understand why they started talking about it now. This memo is for a British citizen to know how to behave in the country where he is going to travel, what places to visit and make his trip safe and enjoyable. That is, this reminder is for tourists to properly prepare for the trip," C. Crofts said.

Speaking about her personal experience of traveling around Azerbaijan, she noted that she knows Azerbaijanis as very hospitable and generous people.

"I myself personally witnessed this and received help from a completely unfamiliar person. The same stories were told to me by other British citizens who, while in Azerbaijan, faced an emergency situation," the Ambassador said.

C. Crofts reported that the Embassy for its part prepared two brochures for the fans.

"In the first brochure there are short theses on how to behave and where to turn in case of unforeseen circumstances. In the second brochure we noted the places that should be visited while in Baku," the Ambassador stressed. -71D-
