Representatives of foreign embassies in Azerbaijan pay tribute to Khojaly genocide victims
Baku/27.02.23/Turan: Representatives of foreign embassies in Azerbaijan paid tribute to the victims of Khojaly genocide on the occasion of 31st anniversary of this tragedy.
Thus, representatives of a number of foreign embassies visited the monument of Khojaly victims in Baku on February 26 and laid flowers. This was reported by representatives of other embassies on Twitter and Facebook.
Note that Turkish, U.S., Ukrainian, British, French and EU Embassies were among those to mark the tragic date.
Turkish Ambassador Jahid Bahçı and Embassy officials laid flowers at the memorial for the victims and expressed condolences and support for the people of Azerbaijan.
The U.S. Embassy Facebook page posted the following message: "Today we join with the Azerbaijani people in expressing our condolences to the families of the victims of the 1992 Khojaly genocide.
British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld also visited the monument to the Khojaly martyrs in Khatai district of Baku and laid flowers.
"I extend my deepest condolences to all those who lost their families, friends and homes in the Khojaly tragedy. We must all unite to make every effort to achieve reconciliation and lasting peace in the South Caucasus," European Union Ambassador Peter Mihalko tweeted.
"Today I want to express my deep respect for the grief of the entire Azerbaijani people as they remember the Khojaly tragedy. A lasting peace through dialogue and reconciliation must be achieved so that such actions do not happen again," French Ambassador Anne Bouillon tweeted.
"On this day, our hearts are filled with unspeakable pain and sadness. The Khojaly tragedy is one of the most tragic pages in human history. Could anyone imagine a repetition of what happened in the heart of Europe in the 21st century? "What Russia has done today against Ukraine proves once again that impunity leads to new crimes!" - wrote Ukrainian Ambassador Vladislav Kanevskiy.
*On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian formations with the participation of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army attacked the town of Khojaly, killing 613 residents, including 63 children, and taking 1275 prisoners.
