Baku / 14.05.18 / Turan: A police raid against two nightclubs in Tbilisi on the night of May 12 resulted in a mass demonstration in the center of Tbilisi, the participants of which protested against the repressive policy of the authorities.
As reported by the Voice of America, the organizers of the action were about twenty human rights organizations, as well as the administration of several Tbilisi nightclubs. Similar actions were also held in Batumi, Kutaisi and Zugdidi. According to the official version, the police conducted an operation against drug dealers.
In the past two weeks, the deaths of young people from drug use have increased in Tbilisi. The police carried out operative-search actions for three months to identify drug distributors in the Bassiani and Gallery clubs in Tbilisi. On May 12, police detained eight people for the distribution of drugs.
Simultaneously, the police used brute force against the citizens who were in the clubs, which provoked public outcry.
The protesters say it is impossible to import drugs into Georgia without the protection by high-ranking officials. Police raids in nightclubs are "shows" and are of a formal nature. -02D-
