Russian Embassy confirms the arrest of a Russian citizen
Embassy of the Russian Federation confirmed the information about the arrest of a Russian citizen, Javid Babayev by law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan.
According to a representative of the embassy, " Russian citizen Javid Babayev was arrested on August 6, and in this connection, the embassy took measures provided for such cases by the Consular Convention between the two countries."
On August 12, with the assistance of the Embassy, Babayev was allowed to meet with a lawyer who started the necessary actions to protect his interests.
The Embassy of Russia believes that the situation with Babayev, will develop in the procedural and legal form. The Embassy is in close contact with the competent authorities of Azerbaijan and Babayev’s lawyer for the protection of the rights of Russian citizens.
Previously, the Federal Lezghian National and Cultural Autonomy (FLNCA) of Russia announced the arrest of two citizens of the Russian Federation in Azerbaijan, who are relatives of the leaders of this organization, Javid Babayev and Tariel Sarkarov. The embassy has not made any comments about the arrest of Sarkarov.
A citizen of Azerbaijan, Eldar Mamedov, a relative of Arif Kerimov, the head of FLNCA, was arrested together with the two Russian citizens.—06D-
