Russian Spies Inform about the plans of NATO and the European Union in Azerbaijan
The German Trial in the case of a couple accused of spying for Russia began in the city of Stuttgart, Germany. They spied in Germany as illegal-scouts since the 1980s. They left for Germany with false documents with Austrian names of Andreas and Heidrun.
For twenty years, they passed secret information about NATO and the EU to Soviet and then Russian authorities, as well as advised the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia on German defense and policy.
In 2009, Anshlag recruited the Dutch diplomat Raymond Valentino Puteray, who bought the papers from NATO and the EU. For cooperating, the agent was allegedly paid a total of 72,000 euros. According to the investigation, this information was about missile defense systems in Europe, the alliance's involvement in the conflicts in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Libya, the policy of NATO and the EU in Georgia and Azerbaijan.
On a tip from U.S. intelligence, the Anshlag family was noticed by German counterintelligence in August 2011.
The process is intriguing, because the illegal-scouts were brought to Germany, when a KGB officer, and now Russian President,Vladimir Putin, served there as a Director of the Dresden Friendship Palace USSR-GDR.
