Rustam Ibragimbekov: The candidate of the National Council will become president
In his interview with the Azerbaijani service of "Voice of America", co-founder of Forum of Intellectuals, famous playwright Rustam Ibrahimbekov, made a number of sensational statements on topical issues of the political situation in Azerbaijan.
"If the presidential election in 2013 again be rigged, as before, it will lead to social upheaval. In the event of such an explosion, the situation will be the same as it was in Egypt, Libya and Syria, and will set the country 30-40 years back," he said.
According to him, today, it is not important to have a single opposition candidate, it is necessary to have a single program. A new movement that would conventionally be called "Third Force" is being created at our initiative, and it seems to me that the number of voters will increase by 30-40%.
"We want to create a new structure, the National Council, which will combine all democratic and progressive forces. That's about 50 people that will determine a single candidate for the elections. It is proposed to elect this man for a short transition period, one or two years. After the necessary reforms and the election of a new parliament, there must be new presidential elections on the basis of international democratic standards, " said Ibrahimbekov.
"I will not be a candidate for president, I have no political ambitions," said the playwright. He did not mention the name of a possible candidate, which put forward the National Council. However, he expressed confidence that candidate nominated by the National Council, with the support of the democratic forces, will win the presidential election. -02D-
