Sentence to 2 servicemen of Armenian armed forces read out
Baku/07.07.23/Turan: Today at the Serious Crimes Court of Sumgait the sentence was read out to the servicemen of the Armenian armed forces - Hovakimyan Arutyun Yurikovich and Kazaryan Karen Ashotovich, accused of violating the state border of Azerbaijan and committing other grave crimes.
The court sentenced each of them to 11.5 years of imprisonment.
Earlier, the prosecutor had asked to sentence them to 12 years of imprisonment.
On May 26 the Azerbaijani Border Guard Service reported an attempt by a subversive group to cross the border from Armenia, and detained two Armenian servicemen.
Criminal cases were filed against Hovakimyan and Kazaryan under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling of weapons and ammunition by a group of persons by prior agreement), 214.2.1 (terrorism by prior agreement), 214.2.3 (terrorism with use of firearms), 228.2.1 (illegal trafficking of weapons by a group of persons), 283. 2.1 (committing actions aimed at inciting ethnic hatred by force) and 318.2 (illegal crossing of state border by a group of persons by force), Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office and State Border Service reported in their joint report. -1606В-

On the evening of February 5, it was reported that journalist Shahnaz Beylargizi had been arrested. She had been a presenter on the Toplum TV channel for several years. After a criminal case was initiated against the channel in March 2024 and nearly all of its staff were arrested, Beylargizi was questioned multiple times. According to relatives, the police conducted a search of her apartment.
