The British ambassador reacted to the arrest of Hafiz Babala
Baku/14.12.23/Turan: British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld expressed his disappointment over the arrests of journalists in Azerbaijan, including Hafiz Babaly.
"Among the news about the arrests in Azerbaijan, I was even more saddened by the news of the arrest of Hafiz Babaly. Freedom of the press is an important pillar of democracy and the countries of the Council of Europe must ensure the rights of journalists to prepare reports without restrictions and threats to them," the ambassador wrote on the social platform “X.”
Hafiz Babaly, an investigative journalist and editor of Turan's economic news department, was detained on December 13. He was charged with "smuggling foreign currency."—06B-
