The Council of the European Union supports efforts to achieve peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Baku/27.10.23/Turan: A meeting of the Council of the European Union was held in Brussels on October 26-27 resulted in adopting an extensive document reflecting the position of Brussels on a number of international problems. Along with Ukraine and the Middle East, the 11-page document has one paragraph on the situation in the South Caucasus, which says:
"The European Council underlines its continued support for advancing a sustainable and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on the principles of recognition of sovereignty, the inviolability of borders and territorial integrity.
The European Council underlines the importance of ensuring the rights and security of the Karabakh Armenians including those who wish to return to their homes.
It supports the Brussels normalisation process and calls on the Parties to engage in good faith and to finalise this process by the end of this year."
In addition, the European Council invites to strengthen cooperation with Armenia. -02D-
