The court arrested Aziz Orujev for 3 months
Baku/28.11.23/Turan: On November 28, the Sabil District Court of Baku arrested Aziz Orujev, the head of the Internet television "Kanal 13", for 3 months. Orujev linked the criminal case with his journalistic work because there is no corpus delicti in his actions, a lawyer Agyl Laidj told Turan.
The investigation accused Orujev of illegally building a house on state-owned land. However, thousands of houses have been built on the same territory, but there are no claims against their owners. On the other hand, the land is owned by the state, and 11 citizens who are not related to this land filed a complaint against Orujev.
"In general, there is no crime in this case, the maximum that government agencies could do is to demolish the building," the lawyer said. According to him, the defense intends to appeal against the arrest.
Orujev was charged under the Article 188.2. (unauthorized construction work on a land plot without ownership rights). According to this Article, Orujev is imprisoned for up to three years.
Despite the accusation of illegal construction, the police conducted searches at the apartment, the office of the channel and Orujev's car, seizing 2 laptops, a mobile phone and materials of the previous criminal case.
Aziz Orujev has previously been subjected to criminal prosecution. In 2017, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. Subsequently, the sentence was commuted and in 2018 he was released on parole. "Channel 13" broadcasts in the format of the YouTube channel. -03B06-
