The Court of Appeal has remanded Aziz Orujev in custody
Baku/04.12.23/Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) rejected the complaint against the arrest of the head of “Kanal-13” Internet television Aziz Orujev, lawyer Bahruz Bayramov said.
"We asked the Court of Appeal not to detain Orujov for the period of the investigation, since the crime imputed to him belongs to the category of less serious. On the other hand, the Article of the Criminal Code under which Orujev is accused is almost not applied in Azerbaijan,” the lawyer said. He noted that the defense will submit a request on how many people in Azerbaijan have been convicted under this article and whether anyone has been subjected to pre-trial arrest under it.
Orujev himself said in court that the arrest was related to his journalistic work. He denied the accusations and linked them to his journalistic work. Nevertheless, the court kept him under arrest. Human rights activists recognized Orujev as a political prisoner.—21B06-
