The German Chancellor called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the former Nagorno-Karabakh
Baku/19.09.23/Turan: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for an immediate cessation of military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh, emphasizing the need for Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve their differences through diplomatic channels. Chancellor Scholz conveyed this stance during a press briefing in New York, where he is participating in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
"Armenia and Azerbaijan currently find themselves in a highly precarious situation. It is abundantly clear to us that this latest episode of conflict must be halted without delay," Scholz asserted. "We advocate a return to diplomatic negotiations, with a sincere attempt to seek a peaceful, mutually agreed-upon resolution to all the issues at hand, both between Armenia and Azerbaijan and within Azerbaijan itself," he stressed.
The renewed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh ignited on September 19, with Baku declaring the commencement of "local anti-terrorist measures" and demanding the withdrawal of Armenian military forces from the region.
