The investigation banned journalist Shamshad Agha from leaving Azerbaijan
On July 5, the Head of the news site arqument.az Shamshad Agha was summoned to the Baku City Police Headquarters. The journalist was questioned as a witness in the case of “Toplum TV,” and, in particular, Agha himself reported on his activities in this publication. According to the journalist, he was the host of a program on “Toplum TV” in the past. However, due to the obligations of "non-disclosure", the Agha did not disclose the contents of the interrogation.
At the same time, the Agha noted that at the end of the interrogation, he was verbally informed about the ban on leaving the country. He intends to seek an official decision on the introduction of a "stop" for him to travel abroad and challenge its legality in court. Representatives of the investigative body were not available for comment.
It should be noted that since the end of last year dozens of journalists and activists in Azerbaijan who were interrogated in the cases of “Toplum TV” and “Abzas Media” were banned from leaving the country.
14 people were arrested in these cases, and a preventive measure was taken against two more persons in the form of transfer to police supervision.
