The investigation has aggravated the accusation of Nargiz Absalamova
On August 16, new charges were brought against journalist Nargiz Absalamova, who has been under investigation in connection with the "AbzasMedia case."
The information was shared by the journalist's lawyer, Shahla Humbatova.
"Nargiz Absalamova has been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code: Article 192.3.2 (illegal entrepreneurship - committed with particularly large income), Articles 193-1.3.1 and 193-1.3.2 (money laundering - committed by an organized group in significant amounts), Article 206.4 (smuggling - committed by an organized group), Article 213.2.1 (tax evasion - committed by an organized group), and Articles 320.1 and 320.2 (document forgery and the use of forged documents)," the lawyer stated.
These new charges could lead to a prison sentence of up to 12 years.
So far, it has not been possible to obtain comments from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is conducting the investigation, or other official bodies regarding the lawyer's statement.
N. Absalamova was detained on November 30 last year after being questioned for the second time at the Baku City Main Police Department as part of the "AbzasMedia case." She was initially charged under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling by a group) of the Criminal Code and was placed in pretrial detention for three months. This period was later extended twice.
She denies the charges.
Under the previous charge, the maximum sentence was up to 8 years in prison.
