The meeting of the National Council of Azerbaijan in Tbilisi
Members of the National Council of Azerbaijan, as part of the leaders of six parties, as well as heads of committees of the National Council are planning to leave next week for Tbilisi to participate in consultations with Rustam Ibrahimbayov, their chairman and the only candidate from the democratic forces.
The meeting in Tbilisi will discuss current issues related to Ibrahimbayov’s plan to return to Baku. A single candidate from the opposition and civil society will also inform the members of the National Council on his recent top-level meetings in the USA, Europe and Russia.
Ibrahimbayov against which the Azerbaijani authorities have filed a lawsuit on the assignment of public funds, and threaten to arrest him if he returns to Baku, is not going to back down, and plans to return home before the campaign of official registration of presidential candidates till August 19.
The famous 72-year-old screenwriter, nominated in June by a united opposition candidate in June as a candidate for presidency, has started the political struggle for the elimination of the authoritarian regime of President Ilham Aliyev and the construction of a democratic state, according to Turan.-0-
