The National Council of Democratic Forces demands immediate release of Tofig Yagublu
Baku/12.09.20/Turan: The National Council of Democratic Forces in its statement expresses serious concern and anger over the health of Tofig Yagublu, one of the leaders of this organization and a member of the Coordination Center.
Tofig Yagublu, a hero of the Garabagh war, a prisoner of conscience, and one of the leading figures of the country's opposition, was heinously arrested in front of the whole society. The trial against Tofig Yagublu was in fact a disgrace and disgrace in the name of justice. There are dozens of pieces of evidence that expose Tofig Yagublu's innocence and the crimes of those who slandered him during the fraudulent trial however they were not taken into consideration by the court at all.
The international reaction to the arrest of Tofig Bey on trumped-up, baseless, and fabricated charges is very harsh. The US State Department, PACE, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the United Kingdom, France, and various human rights organizations have strongly condemned the fabricated criminal case and the false and unfounded verdict and demanded the immediate release of Tofig Yagublu.
The arrest of Tofig Yagublu, a Garabagh veteran, a prominent figure who devoted his entire life to the struggle for Azerbaijan, a politician, a public and political figure, was met with deep anger and protest by the Azerbaijani people. People from all walks of life raise their voices in protest of this illegal arrest and demand the release of Tofig Yagublu, who has already become a symbol of conscience, dignity, and struggle of our people.
Tofig Yagublu has been on a hunger strike for 11 days in protest of the illegal verdict against him. He is 59 years old, has serious chronic diseases and respiratory problems. As a result of his long life as a political prisoner, administrative arrests, and horrific torture, his health was severely damaged. In this situation, the fact that Tofig Yagublu continues to starve for 11 days makes the threat of losing his life quite real.
Tofig Yagublu appealed to the hunger strike as the last and only means of protesting against the serious crime committed against him by the state authorities in an organized manner and therefore insists on his decision.
Therefore, the Aliyev regime is directly responsible for eliminating the consequences of the crime committed against Tofig Yagublu through the police, prosecutor's office, and the judiciary.
As the National Council of Democratic Forces, together with the Azerbaijani people and the international community, we demand the immediate release of Tofig Yagublu, the restoration of justice, the acquittal of Tofig Yagub, the immediate and objective consideration of the appeal against the false and baseless verdict against Tofig Yagublu. .
As the National Council, we declare that President Ilham Aliyev and the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva have sole control over the country's law enforcement agencies and whose family-owned Silk Way’s employee slandered Tofig Yagublu are directly responsible for any threat to the life and health of Tofig Yagublu, reads the statement.-0-
