The Russian Embassy condemned the breaking of tombstones at the cemetery of the village of Zabrat
Baku/19.04.23/Turan: The Russian Embassy to Azerbaijan published a comment on the evening of April 19, which reads:
“Due to numerous inquiries regarding what happened at the "Russian cemetery" of Zabrat village, Sabunchu district, Baku we report the following.
We strongly condemn the committed act of vandalism, during which about 100 graves of our compatriots were damaged. It causes resentment.
Given the scale of this unseemly action, it is difficult to consider it an accidental hooligan stunt. It is sad that this happened in Azerbaijan, which is pursuing a policy of tolerance and multiculturalism. The nature of the deed allows us to expect a public official assessment.
Embassy staff immediately went to the scene to study all the details. We maintain close contacts with local authorities and the Russian community of Azerbaijan.
We would like to thank the leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the prompt response to this incident with the involvement of law enforcement agencies and the initiation of a criminal case. It is important that assurances have been received that the broken tombstones and monuments will be restored.
We hope that those who committed this barbaric crime will be found, brought to justice and punished in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” -0-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.

On November 22, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed negotiations with Azerbaijan regarding a peace treaty in an interview with Public TV.
