Theologian Taleh Baghirzadeh in Solitary Confinement
Theologian Taleh Baghirzadeh was again put in a solitary confinement cell at a Baku jail. Turan was told by lawyer Javad Javadli that the reason was Baghirzadeh’s letter to people of faith on August 19.
Baghirzadeh notes that the active participation of people of faith in the socio-political processes creates opportunities to bring the values of Islam to people.
"Until the full accession of power by the people, we will continue our fight," he writes.
According to the lawyer, Baghirzadeh was put in solitary confinement on August 25 for three days.
Referring to the results of the examination of sermons made by Baghirzadeh, the lawyer said that the experts saw a political subtext in the phrase: "Do not remain silent to oppression!"
However, such a statement is nothing illegal, said the lawyer.
This is the second time Baghirzadeh has been incarcerated in solitary confinement after the online distribution of his appeal.
Baghirzadeh was arrested on charges of illegal possession of drugs on March 31.
This followed a week after his sermon in the mosque, where he castigated the authorities of Azerbaijan. -16B06-
