There is no trust between Yerevan and Baku - Nikol Pashinyan
The peace treaty with Azerbaijan is postponed because the parties do not trust each other. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday, speaking in the country's Parliament.
"If the principles of peace are agreed with Azerbaijan, what is the problem, why are we not moving forward, why are we not signing a peace agreement? By and large, the reason is the lack of trust between the parties, because every time both we and Azerbaijan see intentions in our statements and actions to abandon agreements and plan aggressive actions. This negatively affects the work on the text of the peace treaty," Pashinyan said.
In the near future, several key issues will have to be clarified, one of which is the formulation of a mechanism for overcoming misinterpretations of the peace agreement, he noted.
"Unfortunately, the reality is that any sentence can be interpreted in different ways, so we need to have a very clear interpretation of how we will overcome this in the case of different interpretations. Another issue is security guarantees that there will be no escalation after the signing of the peace treaty," Pashinyan stressed.
The Prime Minister stressed that the government intends to intensify diplomatic and political work to overcome these problems.
