Tournament in Occupied Territories - Football Parody
Baku / 04.06.19 / Turan: Games held in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan by the "confederation", which is not recognized by any official football association and unites illegitimate structures in its ranks, is nothing but a football parody.
So commented the official representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva the conduction of a football tournament by the so-called "Confederation of football associations of unrecognized regions" (CONIFA) in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh.
"I do not want to pay attention to this issue, thus giving it significance. As you know, the Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of our country expressed its protest in this regard. The presence of a country called Lapland among those participating in these games reminds me of the tale of the "snow country". In fact, Armenian psychology is built on fairy tales and legends in which they believe," the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry also expressed its attitude towards the tournament in the occupied territories. "In the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh, the so-called European Football Championship is held, in which football teams from the regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali participate. The initiator and organizer of this event is CONIFA, the Confederation of Football Associations of unrecognized regions. FIFA and UEFA do not recognize CONIFA and similar organizations, which are mainly represented by football teams from unrecognized regions. Accordingly, participation in the so-called championship of football teams of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali does not mean and cannot be the basis for obtaining the legitimacy of occupation regimes in any form," the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The position and support of the international community in the direction of the non-recognition policy pursued by Georgia is unchanged, which is expressed in a number of international documents and statements.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to work actively to strengthen the policy of non-recognition and prevent further risks," the Georgian Foreign Ministry stated.-06D-
