Trial in the case of PPFA activist, Dayanat Babayev
Today at Nasimi District Court, under the chairmanship of Khumar Mardanova held a preparatory session in the case of the young activist PPFA, Dayanat Babayev, charged with disorderly conduct.
According to Babayev himself, the meeting lasted only 8 minutes. In the absence of a lawyer Asabali Mustafayeva activist himself defended his rights. Babayev told the judge that he was familiar with the indictment. The state prosecutor Fuad Asgerov did not speak.
The judge scheduled a trial for 11:00 on May 2. Babayev rejected the accusation under Article 221.2.1 (hooliganism committed by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code. In case if Babayev’s guilt is confirmed, he can be imprisoned up to five years.
According to the investigation, in the evening on November 7, 2012 Babayev, together with another activist of PPFA, Rahim Musayev violate public order in the center of Baku, allegedly they insulted a citizen Tofig Salimov and caused him minor injuries. In fact, Salimov, dressed in civilian clothes, introduced himself as a police officer, and offered to activists to follow to the police station. When the young activists demanded his identity, he tried to flee. Young people told about it to a police officer who was there, but they themselves were detained.
The case against the other defendant, Rahim Musaev, will be considered separately.
PPFA believes that Babayev is persecuted for political reasons for their active participation in actions of protest.-16B06—
