US Ambassador: We Are Proud of Supporting Sovereignty, Independence of Azerbaijan
Baku / 04.07.20 / Turan: The US Embassy in Azerbaijan distributed a video message from US Ambassador Lee Litzenberger on the occasion of the National Independence Day on July 4.
The message from the diplomatic mission recalls that usually the US Embassy organized a gala reception in connection with Independence Day.
“Last year we celebrated this date in the garden of the Embassy together with Azerbaijani friends. Our event was broadcast live via Facebook.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, we will not be able to get together. But the current situation that we are facing does not mean that we cannot virtually celebrate the 244th anniversary of America’s independence,” the report further says.
In turn, Ambassador Litzenberger in his video message notes that the United States was formed after a difficult and lengthy struggle. The founding fathers of the United States in the Declaration of 1776 opposed injustice with the hope that someday all people will achieve a good life, freedom and happiness, which are the values of the modern world.
“It is our people and citizens who created our large state. They ensure that the government respects universal rights and freedoms. They know that it takes time and effort to create and maintain a better union,” the Ambassador emphasized.
According to him, the events surrounding the death of George Floyd during the detention by the police showed that US citizens are fighting for constitutional rights.
“We have succeeded. But we realize that there are still a lot of things to do. I hope that on July 4 we will reaffirm our commitment to advancing these matters.
I hope that our Azerbaijani friends, within the framework of their state, will also join these obligations. Important partnerships exist between the United States and Azerbaijan. We are proud of supporting the sovereignty and independence of Azerbaijan,” the Ambassador said. —06B-
