US and EU welcome release of five Armenian soldiers
Baku /09.09.22/Turan: The United States welcomes the release of 5 Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijan, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said.
“We welcome reports of the return of Armenian detainees home, which is positive for the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
We hope that all the other detainees will also return home, and Azerbaijan and Armenia will continue steps to strengthen trust and resolve the remaining differences," Price wrote on his Twitter page.
Charles Michel, President of the EU Council, also expressed satisfaction with the release of five Armenian soldiers.
"We welcome the release of five more Armenian prisoners by Baku after discussions on August 31 in Brussels.
The transfer of persons is taking place on a bilateral basis for the first time and this is the merit of both sides," Michel wrote on his Twitter account.
The release of the Armenians was also welcomed by the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar.
"We welcome the news about the release of five Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan after the leaders' meeting in Brussels on August 31. An important humanitarian gesture that took place without intermediaries," Klaar said on Twitter. -16D-
