US Assistant Secretary of State noted the importance of achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia
Baku/14.05.23/Turan: The issues of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed on May 14 during a telephone conversation between Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Erica Olson. This is stated in the message of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The parties discussed the Azerbaijani-American bilateral relations, the current situation in the region, steps taken to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
As Mammadov noted, Azerbaijan, as the party that put forward the initiative to normalize relations with Armenia, including the signing of a future peace agreement, is interested in the successful completion of this process.
However, Armenia's actions to impede the peace process, including recent military provocations that have caused casualties in the border area, are aimed at undermining international negotiating efforts.
Olson, in turn, noted the importance of establishing peace and stability in the region, and the need in this context to sign a peace agreement. She stressed that the American side is always ready to support these negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, held on a bilateral basis.
During the telephone conversation, an exchange took place on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.—06B-
