U.S. Condemns Killing Of Georgian Citizen By Russian Occupiers
The United States on Monday condemned the killing of a Georgian national by Russian soldiers in Georgia, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Tamaz Ginturi, a Georgian citizen died as a result of shooting by the Russian occupying forces near the village of Kirbali, Gori municipality.
"We extend our condolences," State Department's Spokesperson Matthew Miller noted. "This death is a stark example of the destruction caused by Russia’s ongoing occupation of Georgia’s sovereign territory and elsewhere," Miller added.
This is the first fatal incident to occur near the boundary with Russian-occupied South Ossetia, while the arrests of civilians around the border are a regular occurence.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili urgently called on the international community to "unequivocally condemn Russia's actions, which have blatantly and shamelessly violated all international norms."
"Profoundly outraged by the Russian occupying forces' fatal shooting of a Georgian citizen during an unlawful arrest This blatant attack on Georgian statehood once again exposes the true nature of the ‘coreligionist brother," she tweeted.
