Washington D.C./04.03.23/Turan: The Biden Administration on Fridayissued Global Magnitsky sanctions against Russians involved in the arrest, prosecution or abuse of the country's opposition leader imprisoned last year for speaking out against the war, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Vladimir Kara-Murza, a prominent politician and fairless critic of Vladimir Putin, was arrested by Russia in April and declared a "foreign agent", and remains held on suspicion of spreading false information about the armed forces.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the sanctions against following people for the following reasons:
√ Oleg Mikhailovich Sviridenko: Russia's deputy minister of justice
√ Elena Anatolievna Lenskaya: A Moscow judge who ordered Kara-Murza be detained
√ Diana Igorevna Mishchenko: The judge who ruled Kara-Murza be arrested
√ Ilya Pavlovich Kozlov: A judge who denied Kara-Murza's appeal of the arrest ruling
√ Andrei Andreevich Zadachin: A special investigator who ordered a criminal case be filed against Kara-Murza
√ Danila Yurievich Mikheev: An expert witness for the Russian government who reviewed footage of Kara-Murza's speech and provided a report which led to charges against him
Lenskaya and Zadachin will also face visa restrictions that deny them and their immediate families entry into the U.S.
