U.S. Urges Baku, Yerevan To 'Keep Momentum' For Peace
Washington D.C./11.08.23/Turan: The United States said on Thursday that it has urged top diplomats from Armenia and Azerbaijan to 'keep the momentum moving forward' to secure a durable peace in the region, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Acting Assistant Secretary of State Yuri Kim spoke on Wednesday, separately, with Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijan FM Jeyhun Bayramov to "underscore U.S. support for the two countries’ efforts to secure a durable peace in the region," as the State Department put it in a post via its Europe and Eurasia division Twitter account.
Kim "urged leaders to keep the momentum moving forward, beginning by enabling free transit of commercial, humanitarian, and private vehicles through the Lachin corridor as soon as possible, noting in particular humanitarian concerns," the Department said.
Kim's calls to Baku and Yerevan follows U.S. Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations Lou Bono's trip to the region last week where he discussed Washington's support for the peace process and how best to reach a durable and dignified peace.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
