Visit of President of Italy to Azerbaijan Continues
Baku / 19.07.18 / Turan: The Azerbaijani-Italian business forum with the participation of the Presidents of the two countries was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center on Thursday.
On Wednesday evening, in the framework of the official visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Baku, the ceremony of awarding him the order of Heydar Aliyev was held.
At the same time, President Mattarella"s daughter Laura received the Order Shohrat (Glory), and the Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero-Milanese received the Order Dostlug (Friendship).
The orders on the awarding say that Sergio Mattarrella was awarded for special merits in the development of friendly relations between the two countries, Laura Mattarella - for strengthening of humanitarian cooperation, and Enzo Moavero-Milanese - for strengthening interstate relations.
Simultaneously, the President of Italy awarded Ilham Aliyev and his wife the orders of the Cavalier of the Great Cross.
Ilham Aliyev noted at the solemn dinner that this is the first visit of the Italian President to Azerbaijan in the history.
Italy ranks first among the trade partners of Azerbaijan - first of all, in the field of energy. After the launch of the Southern Gas Corridor, new opportunities have been created in this area. In the oil import of Italy, Azerbaijan ranks first (15%).
In response, the President of Italy expressed the opinion that Azerbaijan historically gravitated towards the countries of the Mediterranean and in particular to Italy. He noted the active development of bilateral relations in various spheres of the economy and the humanitarian sphere, and especially in the field of training students from Azerbaijan and the implementation of cultural projects. -02D-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
