Who of international leaders to come to the opening European Games?
Today, only two international leaders - Turkish President and Prime Minister of Georgia announced their plans to come to Baku on 12 June, to attend the opening ceremony of the European Games.
On behalf of the President of Turkey made a statement the Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in an interview with Azerbaijani journalists.
In turn, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili said he plans to visit Baku.
The international human rights organizations strongly urge the leaders of European countries not to go to Baku for the opening games due to mass repressions of the authorities against civil society, human rights violations, and the presence of about 100 political prisoners in the country.
Such calls made leading human rights organizations that require leaders to demand from official Baku to release all political prisoners before the games.
Note that Erdogan and Garibashvili were the first leaders of countries who have confirmed their participation. None of the Western leaders have yet confirmed their participation. The arrival of a senior representative of Kremlin, as well as representatives from a number of Eastern European countries that depend on gas supplies from Azerbaijan and wishing to invest in Bakus expected.-02В-
