Wide Range of Opposition Forces Supports National Council’s Rally
Representatives of a wide range of opposition forces intend to attend the rally of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) on September 11.
In particular, the movement NIDA announced its decision to take part in the protest rally against the tyranny, ‘the strengthening of the family power,’ and political repression.
The Musavat party’s Board decided to participate in all activities against the strengthening of authoritarianism in Azerbaijan, the head of the apparatus of Musavat, Gulagha Aslanli, told Turan.
The party endorsed slogans and goals of the National Council’s rally and recognized the appropriate participation of members of Musavat in this action, he added.
Movement D-18 also announced its participation in the 11 and 18 September rallies organized by NCDF and Musavat.
The Liberal Democratic Party also decided to participate in the rally.
A Board member of the REAL movement, Azer Gasimli, told Turan that members of the movement are free to make a personal decision about participation in the action.
A similar position is held by the party Classic Popular Front of Azerbaijan (CPFPA). ‘We, as a party, do not participate in rallies that we do not organize, but party members are free to participate in the rally of September 11,’ the leader of CPFPA, Mirmahmud Miralioglu, told Turan.
It is possible that the participation in the rally will be also declared by other political and social forces.
The NCDF rally of September 11 will be held under the slogan No to Monarchy, End to Robbery as a protest against the referendum on amendments to the Constitution, which is scheduled for September 26. ---06D--

Yerevan does not see the political will from Baku to sign the agreed part of the peace agreement, and discussions about "Western Azerbaijan" create an impression of territorial claims against Armenia, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated on Wednesday at the Warsaw Security Forum. "We see that the Azerbaijani side simply does not want to sign the agreement, raising new demands... They say that all points of the draft document need to be agreed upon. However, there is no such agreement in the world that would address all the problems between the parties. We propose to sign this document and then negotiate other issues," “Sputnik Armenia” quoted Mirzoyan.

It is regrettable that co-operation between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe has reached a stalemate, Gabrielius Landsbergis, the current chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and Lithuania's Foreign Minister, said at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg on Wednesday. Last July, the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) issued a public statement to address the persistent lack of co-operation by the Azerbaijani authorities. We are concerned about the reported violations of the right to freedom of expression and the imposition of disproportionate criminal sanctions to limit freedom of expression in Azerbaijan.
