Armenia is preparing a response to proposals for a peace treaty

Armenia is preparing a response package of proposals for a peace treaty, press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan said.

“Armenia’s response proposals for a peace treaty are at the preparation stage. Armenia is ready to sign the agreement as soon as possible in accordance with the fundamental provisions already voiced and presented,” Badalyan said.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has not yet reported this. It should be recalled that in March 2022, Baku proposed to conclude peace on the basis of the following five principles:

- mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of international borders and political independence of each other;

- mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial claims of States against each other and a legal obligation not to make such claims in the future;

- to refrain from threatening each other's security in interstate relations, from using threats and force against political independence and territorial integrity, as well as from other circumstances incompatible with the purposes of the UN Charter;

- delimitation and demarcation of the state border, establishment of diplomatic relations;

- the opening of transport and communications, the establishment of other relevant communications and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.

After that, the parties began to exchange drafts of a peace treaty containing these principles. The other day, Ilham Aliyev said that the draft agreement has been agreed by 80-90%. At the same time, he noted the points without which there will be no agreement: the need to change the Constitution of Armenia, in the part where there are territorial claims to Azerbaijan and Armenia's consent to open the Zangezur corridor on Baku's terms.

In addition, Baku links the issue of the return of Armenians to Karabakh with the right of Azerbaijanis to return to their places of residence in Armenia.
