Etibar Mammadov: January 20 Сould Be Repeated
The leader of the party "National Independence" Etibar Mammadov - an active participant in the events of 20 January 1990 in an interview with Turan commented on the lessons of the events after a quarter century.
On the question of what are the lessons of history on January 20, Etibar Mammadov said that if people wish freedom, can come together in a fist and demand their rights, this is the first lesson.
At the same time, losses are inevitable, but also inevitable are results.
The second lesson is that if the leaders are self-marginalizing people, who are sometimes even opposed to objective processes, it ends with a great tragedy.
"January 20, 1990 was an attempt to commit violence in the capital of Azerbaijan, and to intimidate its people. This was done by the Empire. Lessons for us lie in the fact that it could happen again and again by imperial forces. Insurance against this can only be the unity of the people and the government," Mammadov said.
Unfortunately, he said, still in the government of Azerbaijan are pro-Russian forces, many of whom participated in the January events of 25 years ago. Their ideology is contrary to the interests of the idea of independence of Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, these people still affect the policy of Azerbaijan. They still advocate that the future of Azerbaijan is connected with Russia.
However, imperial Russia cannot bring any benefit to Azerbaijan. It can only be a neighbor and we cannot allow Russia to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, Mammadov said.
In the power there are not only pro-Russian, but also pro-Western forces. "All of them are weak people who are always trying to be under someone's shadow. For me there is no difference under whose influence to be - Russia or America.
Aspiring under someone's wing people have poor self-concept and ready for all for the sake of their benefits. Such people should not be in power. The power needs people nationally oriented and loyal to their country, ready to protect it, Mammadov said.
Responding to a question about the oppression of free media, including radio Azadlig, Mammadov said that Azerbaijan has no independent press. There are politically oriented media. In Azerbaijan, there is no independent media having free economic opportunities.
"If we want to see the formation of the press in Azerbaijan, we should strive to create financially free media. This will require significant changes in legislation and policy," he said. -03B-
