M.Gurbanli: Azerbaijan is based on international law and justice

Socio-political situation in Azerbaijan is absolutely stable. Authorities successfully solve their challenges. Policies pursued by President meets Azerbaijan's interests, said in  an interview with Objective TV Mubariz Gurbanly,  the deputy of Milli Majlis, deputy executive director of the party "Yeni Azerbaijan". Commenting hearings on Azerbaijan in the U.S. Helsinki Commission, Gurbanly noted that these hearings  do not have legal obligations.

He noted the positive statements about the position of Azerbaijan in Karabakh,  and the  presence of IDPs. At the same time Gurbanli believes that at the hearing voiced "biased theses on human rights, freedom of the press, of conscience."

"I would really like to take part on the Helsinki hearings American congressmen visited the region. Once they gather concrete data about the region, it is possible to hold a hearing," says Gurbanly.

According to him, Western organizations in terms of human rights, allow double standards. This is evident in the approach to Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

"For example, in Armenia, in fact, is a  dictatorial regime. Part of the leadership of this country have committed crimes in Nagorno-Karabakh. Their guilt   is that is more than one million Azerbaijani citizens were expelled from their places of residence. Therefore, it is wrong to compare Armenia and Azerbaijan in terms of human rights and freedoms. Azerbaijan is in this sense far ahead," said Gurbanly.

Sometimes international organizations much better assess the situation with human rights in Armenia, compared to Azerbaijan. Although actually in Armenia is a dictatorial regime.

International organizations preparing reports on the human rights situation and the press should not take information from the opposition press, because it biased, but this source cannot be the basis for international organizations, said the deputy.

Gurbanly believes that the country is fully provided with freedom of the press. "Power  not only supports the freedom of the media, but also provides financial support." He further stated that numerous international organizations support the elections held in Azerbaijan.

"So, at  the last presidential election, most international organizations, monitoring  elections, gave a positive conclusion,"  said the deputy. Azerbaijan is the country causing a lot of trust in the world and is considered a reliable partner. Azerbaijani government and its leader is responsible and conducts its policy based on European values, believes Gurbanly. And will also be under the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, said Gurbanly.

Azerbaijan has no political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. "Our approach is that - the notion of political prisoner reflected in the documents of the Council of Europe, OSCE and other international organizations. These documents say, if only people are  persecuted for their political affiliation, they are considered politically persecuted.

Prisoners of conscience  are called persons persecuted for freedom of conscience. However, political prisoners can not be considered a person who violates the laws of Azerbaijan,  and a person chased and arrested for a crime by a court decision.

If people were punished for the freedom of speech and press, the authors of the columns in the radical press, would have long been persecuted," said the deputy.

Being asked to compare the cases of journalist Avaz Zeynalli and former MP ,Guler Ahmadova, Gurbanly said that in both cases there is a nature of crime. "This is not a political matter, but a purely legal."

Speaking about "people's diplomacy", Gurbanly considers wrong to sit at the same table with the aggressor. Public diplomacy can be conducted only after the peace agreement, and not between the warring nations.

Being asked  why  the authorities welcome the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation headed by Polad Bulbuloglu  to Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia, and the reception of the Armenian delegation in Baku  by  the Azerbaijani President,  Gurbanly stated that it was "not public diplomacy,  it was part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations within the Minsk Group,"  said Gurbanly. -03B04-
