19 military men convicted in the "Terter case" can be acquitted
Baku/30.09.22/Turan: On September 30, the Plenum of the Supreme Court decided to send the cases of 19 people arrested in the "Terter case" for a new consideration by the Court of Appeal.
Thus, the Supreme Court granted the request of the Prosecutor General to review the cases of previously convicted Rauf Orudjev, Nijat Rzayev and others under the Article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code and other articles. As expected, these persons can be acquitted.
On September 5, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev petitioned the Plenum of the Supreme Court to review the sentences of 19 people convicted in the "Terter case" (the case of a large group of military men convicted on charges of spying for Armenia). At the same time, the Prosecutor General's Office announced new arrests in connection with the facts of torture in this case.
* After the April 2016 battles in Azerbaijan, the military began to be massively involved in the investigation, which was called the Terter case.
Then the Prosecutor General's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a joint statement, motivated the arrests by the involvement of the suspects in espionage in favor of Armenia.
The public learned about the mass torture of detainees in May-June 2017 only in 2019. According to human rights activists, more than 100 soldiers and officers were tortured, 25 were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, at least nine people died from torture.
According to the testimonies, the materials of the forensic examination, the defendants were subjected to sophisticated torture. --0--
