A group of people arrested for the illegal development of stone quarries

Baku / 07.11.18 / Turan: During the monitoring conducted by the Ministry of Environment, the facts of illegal mining of limestone deposits in the Garadagh, Sabil and Khazar districts of Baku were revealed. Materials on 22 legal entities and 26 individuals were sent for investigation from the Central Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan. Lawsuits have been initiated under the Article 192.2.1 (illegal business), 247 (violation of environmental protection rules in the performance of work) and 308.1 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code, stated a joint report of the Ministry of Environment and the General Prosecutor's Office. The investigation revealed environmental damage amounting 4 million 845 thousand manat. It was also found that of the 48 business entities operating in these fields, 29 did not have licenses from the Ministry of Emergency Situations to conduct mining operations. The head of the "Gunesh" cooperative, Khaleddin Yaryev, was brought to criminal responsibility under the said Articles: individuals Afair Babakhanov, Oruj Almazov, Lachin Gazakhov, Elshan Kazymov and Tapdyg Gasimov. In respect of them, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen by a court decision. The investigation is ongoing. -16D--
