A journalist Afgan Mukhtarly disappeared in Tbilisi
Baku / 05/30/17 / Turan: Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarly, who collaborates with "Azadlig" radio ("Liberty"), disappeared in Tbilisi. According to Azerbaijani human rights activists, yesterday at 19:00 he said goodbye to his friend, saying that he was going home. Since then, there is no information about him.
Mukhtarly left Azerbaijan three years ago in connection with the campaign of pressure on NGOs and independent press and the closure of the Azadlig radio office.
In Tbilisi, he held protests in front of the Azerbaijani embassy, and recently wrote about the persecution of Azerbaijani activists in Georgia.
Journalist"s relatives appealed to the police. Official bodies of Georgia have not yet commented on this issue. -06D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
